Pictos Server

Drew Wilson has introduced a new service ($19–$99/year) which allows designers to create custom icon fonts from his Pictos collection. It’s crazy simple: Pick your icons, assign to letters, and embed the font live, ala Typekit, or download the file for a small fee. Brilliant.

Also: if you need a little convincing as to why you would want to use a webfont for icons, check out this excellent article on CSSTricks.

Cult of Mac has posted a gallery of “Icon Porn,” Snow Leopard’s beautiful icons. My favorite icon since Leopard has been the networked Window’s icon — featuring a beige CRT monitor and the “blue screen of death.” I wouldn’t say it’s smug, I bet even the guys over Redmond got a chuckle out of it (even if it was subdued and nervous).

Hand & Arrow Icons from Daily Exhaust (via benjaminf)

I’ve done Google Image searches numerous times for hand and arrow cursor icons (and I haven’t ever saved them permanently to my ‘design_resources’ folder years ago when I should have).
Sometimes it’s easier to just do certain things yourself.
